A Leichhardt Oval makeover will be allocated $50 million government funding while $60 million has been committed to a Campbelltown Stadium upgrade.
The announcement was made at half time of the Tigers’ 34-28 loss to the Cowboys in front of a sold out crowd at Leichhardt Oval.
Nicknamed the Eighth Wonder of the World, Leichhardt is the spiritual home of the Tigers and one of the great suburban grounds in the country.
However, some of the ground’s amenities and facilities are old and in dire need of a facelift.
“Super happy for the players, the fans, both here and Campbelltown,” Tigers coach Benji Marshall said after the Cowboys loss.
“I think it’s important for us to know where our future lies and especially for our fans.
“So it’s credit to Richo and their team for what they’ve done to be able to get that funding and that’s not really my job to worry about, but from the players and coaching perspective, we’re happy about it.”
An official announcement is expected to be made on Monday.
