Blues centre Latrell Mitchell once again showed his brilliance in the Origin arena with a freakish catch and pass in mid-air to put Brian To’o over for a stunning NSW try.

In the 29th minute with the Blues leading 6-0, Nathan Cleary went down the left side and passed to Latrell, who jumped in the air, caught it and passed in one motion to put To’o away for a try in the corner.

Queensland legend Cameron Smith marvelled at the skill from Mitchell given he had two defenders on him.

“When you’ve got the world’s best players playing together, special things happen,” Smith said on Channel 9.

“This is as good as it gets. Cleary will go to the line beautiful pass, but then watch the quick hands, soft hands.

“Latrell Mitchell incredible skill shown there by everyone involved in that movement. For the class of Nathan Cleary, he catches the ball. First off the ruck. But Cleary catches the ball and he comes off his left. He comes off his right. And what it does it stops the inside defenders. “Daly Cherry-Evans is then under pressure so he comes out of the line and then all of a sudden that creates an overlap on the outside.

“You’ll see it here beautifully. Look at that. Stop start. Great. Create the overlap on the outside. Still had to be classy. Hands by Latrell Mitchell, but what a try that was.”

Blues legend Brad Fittler marvelled at Mitchell’s strength and skill to be able to produce that pass in a split second before the line.

“Latrell when he threw the ball he was off the ground,” Fittler said.

“I don’t know how he finds the strength to be able to flick it through his hands that quick. Well, he’s not even on the ground.”
